there is a good chance the arctic sea will be ice free by the end of this summer. three years ago this was not expected to happen for another fifty to one hundred years. minimum.
this will be a huge political hot potato by november.

I think the Americans will remain quibbling over Obama, hillary and McCain even if the water reaches their knees..
They always seem to lose part of their brain function when elections approach.. -

normally, true. and the american public will still be way behind the curve on appreciating the full meaing of what is happening. but they will be become very alarmed by the EFFECT that the ice cap completely melting away will create. this will bring off the fence that large majority of scientists that have been very conservative and cautious in their statements and predictions, this year they will unite in a full throated scream of alarm and dire effects and the absolute need to act NOW if future planet wide catastrophe is to be averted.
the final kicker is that john mccain is fully on board the 'globla warming is happening and it is dire' bus AND he will be using that issue to make points against obama, since he has a fairly long record of being on that bus and making legislative moves to address that problem. so NEARLY the entire rght wing media machine will, of necessity, swing to mccains position on it. and THAT, in conjuction with the warnings, is what will make it a political hot potato. -
