Saying that the state of WV is highly racist is not meant to be an absolute comment but it does have a lot of truth. What the Obama campaign had to endure there is pretty amazing. The fact that 20% of the state admitted in exit polling that they wouldn't vote for a black man, speaks for itself. It also means that most people didn't say. So who knows what the real number is, 50%+?.
This however will not be the deciding factor in the general election. Its a regional divide that has varying degrees from state to state. There are a lot of different factors that will work into his favor such as: the minority vote, women voters (especially if Hillary sincerely asks her people to back him), young and fist time voters, and Republicans who are sick of George W Bush and don't want a third term with Mccain. There will also be many Democrats who wouldn't vote for a black man but will see the problem with a bush 3rd term. -

Thu, May 15, 2008 - 11:34 PMOh, the poor Glennazi's feelings are hurt by videos of racists...poor poor baby.
He'd like to pretend racsim doesn't exist and screech 'Godwin's Law! Godwin's Law' every time race and racism is discussed - that way he's not confronted with a mirror image of his own vile bigotry. -

What I find amazing is the glib way in which Obama supporters and most of the media willfully overlooks what has to be one of the most monumental asswhippings in Dem history.
No Obama supporter will even acknowledge that this guy who moves farther to the left each year, has now gone further left than any of his senate colleagues. He has never passed a significant bipartisan piece of legislation so the Unifier tag is a campaign myth.........yet we constantly hear that those who are uncomfortable with his lack of achievement, his doctrinaire socialist beliefs...........are merely racist and stupid........
Great campaign strategy..........I suppose I'll be thankful at the end.
And Kelly, I didn't watch the video but I can't imagine that these people are anywhere near as vile and as hateful as you are in this forum every day.......

Re: video of those enlightened west virginians
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 12:07 AMNo Glennyboy, of course you didn't watch the video - as I said, you're too cowardly to look into the mirror and see your own bigoted image reflected back. Instead, you spout garbage without a clue what you're talking about - as I said about your idealogical soulmate Cliffie, you revel in your ignorance like a dog rolls around in its filth.
'Obama moves farther to the left every year'? Jeez, you are living in a completely alternate reality, aren't you? Totally, totally clueless and proud of it, I'm sure. Obama has been shifting center since his campaign started - some think it's a betrayal, I just think it's a politician knowing that he's got to appeal to a broad range of folks to win a national election (and I think he's nowhere near as rightward-leaning as Clinton). But to say he's getting MORE liberal? Only an idiotic partisan so so blinded by propaganda that he can't tell the difference between a hat and having his head buried up his ass would believe that.

Fri, May 16, 2008 - 4:19 AMWow, that's so weird...racist democrats? I thought only republicans were racist. At least, that's what I've learned since joining this tribe and reading thread after thread and post after post by democrats telling me that republicans are actually nazis and cross burning KKK members... -

Re: video of those enlightened west virginians
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 4:46 AMThanks for that link, Zeke......
"A bipartisan coalition of Republicans and northern Democrats was the key to the bill's success."
"The Republican Party was not so badly split as the Democrats by the civil rights issue. Only one Republican senator participated in the filibuster against the bill. In fact, since 1933, Republicans had a more positive record on civil rights than the Democrats. In the twenty-six major civil rights votes since 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 % of the votes. By contrast, the Republican majority favored civil rights in over 96 % of the votes."

As I brought up in an earlier thread...
40% of blacks polled in MS said that they used race in determining who they voted for....
Do you consider this to be as highly racist as the 20% from WV?
to me it's just the flipside of the same coin...

Maybe I'm bias but supporting a black politician when you're black after centuries of oppression is qualitatively different than voting against the same politician because of his race. Yes both are based on race but one seems more akin to supporting your relative in a contest. The other smacks of a desire to stop a particular race from rising in society. An analogy might be me rooting for my son to do well at a little league game and you rooting against him because you dislike me. Very different animal in my opinion. -

your analogy is stupid.
using skin pigment to make a choice about a vote, or who gets a job is discrimination.
excusing poor behavior because of skin pigment is soft bigotry in and of itself

Re: video of those enlightened west virginians
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 3:48 AMThe historical ass whupping that you refer to Glennzzz could be perhaps instead that this is the first time that the good racists of West Virginia got a chance to weigh in on an uppity Negro candidate who had the audacity to ride in the front of the bus through May---and what is really funny about this exercise in ignorance is their racist voting pattern means nothing. Meanwhile the rest of America has lifted itself out of the muck of bigotry while West Virginians so happily wallow. I imagine that the vote was horribly embarrassing to the handful of progressive Democrats that are unfortunate enough to have to live in West Virginia.
Apparently at Hillary's victory party the Venue was 2/3 full and the Mrs. Clinton staff had to pass out posters because not so many of the i
attending diots had remembered to bring one. (Accepting the one pearl of wisdom that read "Just say no to Barack Hussein Obama" that redneck touching mash-up tribute to Nancy Reagan's failed anti-drug policy.) Finally, according to Thom Hartmann the crowd had to figure out when to applaud via cue cards---
No Glennzzz this was not a historical ass whupping this was klieg light shined on the stunning ignoramus of the West Virginia voter.
