Re: PALIN LOL
Sun, August 31, 2008 - 10:39 PMhmmmm. I think it depends on what the vetting committee finds. I'm sure they're going to size up the legal issues pending before the Alaskan legislature. They might try to convince the legislature to drop the charges.
the other thing people haven't heard abut much is the replacement she chose for Monagan wasn't vetted until after she chose him. He had pending sexual harassment charges. He resigned within 2 weeks and went home with 20 g's. Monagan got zip.

Re: PALIN LOL
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 9:44 AMinteresting article on the subject:
Let's assume that Sarah Palin is exactly as smart and disciplined as Barack Obama. But instead of the year and a half of nonstop campaigning he has behind him, and Joe Biden's even longer toughening-up process, she comes into the most intense period of the highest stakes campaign with absolutely zero warmup or preparation. If she has ever addressed an international issue, there's no evidence of it in internet-land.
The smartest person in the world could not prepare quickly enough to know the pitfalls, and to sound confident while doing so, on all the issues she will be forced to address. This is long before she gets to a debate with Biden; it's what the press is going to start out looking for.
So the prediction is: unavoidable gaffes. The challenge for the McCain-Palin campaign is to find some way to defuse them ahead of time, since Socrates, Machiavelli, and Clausewitz reincarnated would themselves make errors in her situation. And the challenge for Democrats is to lead people to think, What if she were in charge?, without being bullies about it.

Mon, September 1, 2008 - 10:43 AMSocrates would never let himself get in her position, nor would he make any mistakes, he just would point out other mistakes. . .
"And so, good Palin. . .you have been said to have knowledge of these things, and all respect you, for your great experience. What does it mean to have a right to life?" -

pawlenty would have been a much better choice for him. -

Re: PALIN LOL
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 11:50 AMprobably. . .but Palin is a much more interesting choice.
its all about constituencies.
Obama gets the liberal vote and the black vote. . .those are without question.
McCain will get the south, the christians and is going after hispanics and working to make inroads with women.
It might be just enough to edge out Obama. . -

On paper maybe. I don't see her passing the CiC test. Obama's has his own problems here but he's been talking about foreign policy for years. Palin's "I haven't thought that much about Iraq" is right up there with McCain's "I don't know much about the economy". Like I said, maybe it'll be overlooked but I wouldn't bet on it. It's a bold move, that's for sure. We'll see if it was a wise move. -

> Palin's "I haven't thought that much about Iraq"
Yeah, wow. That's a pretty damning quote. I haven't focused much on it, isn't really damning in itself. But saying that she don't really follow what's going on, while supporting Bush and Cheney is the really damning part of the quote.
"Alaska Business Monthly: We've lost a lot of Alaska's military members to the war in Iraq. How do you feel about sending more troops into battle, as President Bush is suggesting?
Palin: I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place; I want assurances that we are doing all we can to keep our troops safe. Every life lost is such a tragedy. I am very, very proud of the troops we have in Alaska, those fighting overseas for our freedoms, and the families here who are making so many sacrifices."

Re: PALIN LOL
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 12:40 PMyep, and besides, remember. . .the mass of voters will not consider any of these small but significant factors.
palin is going to be groomed. . .prepped and packaged. this hasn't happened yet. when she gets out on the campaign trail she is going to be excellent. . .articulate and impressive. i think she will be a terrific campaigner. these little concerns won't even register as people begin to see her as a person. . .
i think she will show herself to have broad appeal to the middle americans that can put the republicans over the top. .
soccer moms are going to love her, as will people in the midwest. . .and of all those running she is clearly not a party hack or a washington d.c. insider.
this is going to be a close race. . -

Mon, September 1, 2008 - 12:51 PM"yep, and besides, remember. . .the mass of voters will not consider any of these small but significant factors. "
I really see nothing wrong with that answer. She stated her general thoughts, and highlighted the fact that most of her energy is being directed towards managing the problems of Alaska, and not pontificating every time she is in the limelight
"and of all those running she is clearly not a party hack or a washington d.c. insider. "
That should get her credit from everyone, right there
