Bottom line, the Bankers run this joint.

You think they don't have a case ready to charge every bigtime politician in the nation if they try and get in their way? Puh-leeze.

Illinois Threat to Bank of America Is Dangerous, Critics Say
Email | Print | A A A

By David Mildenberg and Brian Louis

Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s threat to halt the state’s dealings with Bank of America Corp. over a shut-down factory in Chicago extends a “dangerous” trend of politicians meddling with commerce, a former general counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.

Blagojevich, a Democrat, yesterday said the biggest U.S. retail bank won’t get any more state business unless it restores credit to Republic Windows & Doors, whose workers are staging a sit-in. John Douglas, an attorney with Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker in Atlanta, said Blagojevich and Senator Christopher Dodd -- who called on General Motors Corp. to fire Chief Executive Rick Wagoner -- can’t tell companies how to run their business.

“This is a very dangerous thing,” said Douglas, who was at the FDIC from 1987 to 1989 and has since represented financial institutions including Bank of America. “There becomes an expectation that these government officials have some say over what the institution does,” he said in an interview.

Right. The banks forced Blagojevich to try to sell a Senate seat, or to financially force the Tribune Company to fire unsympathetic editors, or to take state aid away from a friggin CHILDREN'S hospital because the hospital's CEO wouldn't give Blago cash.

It can't be Blago's fault since Blago is a Democrat, and mouth breathing partisans never believe that one of their own party can ever do wrong, unless it was forced on them by one of their usual targets of hatred.

Maybe it's like rounding up the usual suspects, ala Casablanca.

Crosses, double crosses, alignments, changing alignments. Doing what one has to do. And doing what is right.

there's only so long that a game can go on, when someone has gone OVER the line. Their lines, the bankers or politicians, they might have way different morals and values, but that doesn't mean they don't still recognize going over the line.

As corrupt as it is, there still seem to be rules. Certainly not ones I understand, as I don't even get the regular social unwritten rules.

There may well be the scapegoat slaughter, where someone who didn't do that much wrong gets nailed. But when a person is so out of control, as it appears Blagojevich was, that has to be put to a stop right away.

I think people are beginning to demand more honesty and accountability. I hope so anyway. But I don't think that the big corporations are able to keep up with the public demands and expectations.

Politicians and corporations may have to "parent" the citizens by being exemplary themselves. For instance, NOT by giving people what they want, and NOT by taking the easy way. Such as providing gas guzzlers with tax breaks for both the seller and buyer. Or "E Z Credit".

That's like letting the kids dictate dinner menus to be junk food. And the parents complying because it's cheap. It does NO ONE any favors, and has consequences in the long run.

Automakers should have been "parenting" by providing the healthy, nutritious cars and trucks that sip gas and step gently on the earth. Financing should be taught in schools, credit purchases only for major purchases that are needed. Folks that might NEED a new fridge because the old one is beyond repair could get credit for an energy star (parenting) fridge.

Most people don't need another pair of shoes. Or more clothing. Or a vacation home. Or even a vacation. Don't put any of that on a credit card.

If these businesses thought of themselves as good parents, with the goal being to help raise good kids, they would be a lot better off. All of us would be. How many times had your own parents told you "You don't need that, you have toys at home" or "I'm not buying that today for you" or "that's not a good choice".

All these bad choices ended up with this recession.

Are you saying that this was all fake?
Are you suggesting that the Fed was unreasonable in their investigation of the guy - - which he had known of for more than a year??
Are you suggesting that the guy should have been left to his enormous corruption?

I ask because I haven't quite got my head around what it is that you fond so i unpalatable?

As it regards Spitzer: The man was asking for it. He had gone gangbusters after so many people and companies the vast majority had done no wrong but all of them had to initiate measures that would make sure that whatever happened they had their bases covered thus costing their clients more in increases costs to CYA for the Spitzenator. The man was crazed.

So he of all people should have known that the whole business community was gunning for him. What insane arrogance on his part let him imagine that he could be a scofflaw and a criminal himself while holding every one else's feet to the fire?

This is pretty dicey, that's for sure. And it's pretty tough to believe it's just a coincidence.

      >So he of all people should have known that the whole business community was gunning for him.

Notice though how bad many businessmen hated him - but he only went down when he started sticking his nose into bank bailout/looting operation. He was a threat, they took him down. Thats reality. They had taps on him for years most likely. They have dirt on EVERYBODY.

Its so obvious this is how the world really works. You guys live in this little media-created fantasy world. Must be nice.

Don't feel sorry for the guy in the least. He is dirty and wanting to get journalist who don't say what he likes fired is especially bothersome. www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/1...70.html

I hear he was pretty pissed at Obama and his team because they wouldn't play his dirty game with him and offer him anything.

the guy was already under investigation for his dealings with Rezko. the prosecutor responsible for his indictment was responsible for convicting Ryan. same guy responsible for prosecuting against scooter libby.

there is nothing ominous to this situation... except the fact that this psychotic idiot was elected as governor in the first place. and of course the realization that certain people love their conspiracies.
  • Rep. Jackson Denies Offer Of Favors for Senate Seat

    Wed, December 10, 2008 - 9:59 PM
<<<CHICAGO, Dec. 10 -- In the wake of the most brazen Illinois corruption case in years, President-elect Barack Obama and the entire Senate Democratic caucus called on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign Wednesday, while Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. said he did nothing wrong in seeking a Senate appointment from the governor.

Jackson (D-Ill.) said that he may be "Senate Candidate 5" in the 76-page affidavit filed Tuesday in support of corruption charges against Blagojevich but that he had "no involvement whatsoever in any wrongdoing."

The criminal complaint quotes the Democratic governor as saying that an emissary from Candidate 5 had offered to raise $500,000 for Blagojevich's campaign treasury. Jackson said at a news conference that "I never sent a message or an emissary." >>>
