    the worse thing about dennis miller (ok - not THE worst thing, that is a metaphysical issue beyond my ken) is that his entire schtick is a republicanized rip-off of Bill Hicks - one of the greatest geniuses of the 20th century.

      Hicks was good, he wasn't a genius though. Jokes about Reagan and Bush pissing on Rush Limbaugh are kind of lame. It's only funny because you hate those people. The true test would be to replace those conservatives with liberals using the same joke. Like Clinton and Gore pissing on Al Franken...... it's still not funny. And I think Al Franken is a douchebag. The best leftist comedian is and will probably always be David Cross. I don't agree with his politics, but the man is a brilliant comic.

              he got his smarmy ass handed to him on that smartest celebrity show (i forget the shows title) a while back. he was considered the heavy favorite going in but he placed way back. bonny franklin of 'one day at a time' fame, who was considered a waaay long shot kicked everyone's ass. she turned out to be one seriously smart broad.

I love both those guys and think theyre great. Bill Maher too. Although Bill has said a couple things in the past few months that I disagree with. And at the moment I can't even remember what those things are. Whatev.

                Uh, Yes he is. I happened to be driving home a few nights ago and he was on some old asshole's show.....what's his name.....that woman-hater......uh.....oh, Tom Likus.....? Anyway - Mencia was there talking about how he did concerts for the troops and he started to make fun of gay people in the military, and he noticed some 'people in the middle of the audience that were not laughing - so that means that they MUST have been gay. He said (and I am paraphrasing, but using many of his words), 'So, I started really hammering at them, using the word "faries" and "queers" and the "f-word".....).

                So, the guy is BRAGGING that he was using bigoted language......the WORST kind of bigoted language against gay people.

                He was laughing his ass off - they both thought it was the funnies shit in the world.

                Fuck that guy.

                Plus, he's soooooooooooooooo self-involved, the whole discussion for the then minutes that I heard it was him talking about himself and how great he was. Really - it was one of the most bizarre 'interviews' that I ever have heard. I put that word in parenthesis because there were no questions really, just Mencia talking about why he's so great.

                  I didnt know that. I have his first season on dvd. I guess what he chooses to do with his 15 minutes of fame is up to him. He'd be a fool to throw it all away for nothing. And being a bigot can pretty much diminish or end a "career" pretty quick these days.

              That's like saying Andy Kaufman's only funny if you hate the WWF. Bill Hicks *was* a genius and I don't hate anybody. There were soreheads who scorned Charlie Chaplin as a Red til the day he died.

              Dennis Miller was a lightweight on SNL and remains one. In fact, probably the only reason he even HAS a career now is his right-wing politics. That kind of shit is job security in some parts of showbiz.

              His best line ever- reviewing "M. Butterfly," he said "This has the worst choreography since the Oswald prison transfer."

    Bill Hicks once joked that he quit smoking just to see if Dennis Miller would quit smoking, too - since even while Hicks was alive Miller was notorious for ripping off Hicks material.

    Of course all artists "borrow" from other artists - and mediocre talents like Miller really have no choice but to borrow people who actually do have talent, like Hicks.

    And it is not a matter of his politics. I have no idea what Sam Kinnison's politics were - but he was the same kind of evil genius that Hicks was. And who really gives a shit what "politics" Matt Stone and Trey Parker have?

    The joke about people pissing on Rush Limbaugh is not funny because it is political. It is just plain hilarious, period.

      Their whole point was their cluelessness and discomfort with ideas. When they started showing up at Right-bent political conferences, it was a sign they'd run out of things to say. Another five years and they'll be the new Yakov Smirnoff.
